CPI (M) Sitaram Yechury passes away at the age of 72
Thursday, September 12, 72-year-old Sitaram Yechury, the General Secretary of the CPI(M) and a veteran leader, passed away from complications stemming from pneumonia. Over the past few days, the 72-year-old leader had been in critical condition, being treated for an acute respiratory infection. Even though Yechury was receiving breathing support, complications from a lung infection ultimately claimed his life.
Yechury was in critical condition after being brought to AIIMS on August 19 due to a pneumonia-like illness. His lungs developed a fungal infection, which made his situation worse. Following a public viewing at the CPI(M) headquarters on Saturday, his body will be donated to AIIMS for medical study in accordance with his desires.
